Antonio López (Tomelloso, Ciudad Real, 1936) ha creado una obra de aire intemporal y gran maestría, centrada en la representación realista de seres y objetos. Examina la realidad y después, normalmente sin bocetos previos, ejecuta sus obras con una elaboración meditada que puede durar años y que a menudo le obliga a aumentar sucesivamente las dimensiones de los soportes artísticos. Produce gran curiosidad la idea de que la obra de este pintor la regían las estaciones del año de alguna manera. Me explico. Hay cuadros que los pintaba sólo en verano, o sólo en invierno, para poder así recoger todos los detalles de esa época y ese lugar en su obra. Podía pasarse largos años pintando. Paciencia y perfección son dos palabras que le definen.
Aunque se expondrán obras fechadas entre 1949 y 2010, el proyecto está centrado, por una parte, en el trabajo de las dos últimas décadas, por lo que reunirá obras (alrededor de 130) tan emblemáticas como sus primeros retratos familiares surrealizantes, las míticas vistas de la Gran Vía madrileña o los dibujos de su estudio. Junto a ello, prestará atención a sus obras recientes, incluso algunas todavía inacabadas y, por lo tanto, inéditas. Todo ello pondrá de relieve el lento y meditado proceso de creación artística de Antonio López, uno de los artistas con mayor prestigio, y que despierta mayor admiración, del panorama artístico español actual.
Sus pinturas, dibujos y esculturas reflejan bodegones, entornos rurales, retratos familiares, entornos domésticos, naturaleza muerta, la ciudad de Madrid… un paseo por toda su obra que termina con una serie de óleos de flores y proyectos recientes.

Además, os recomiendo un del director Víctor Erice: El sol del membrillo (1992), en donde puso de relieve el proceso creativo de Antonio López. Hace años que la vi, y ahora la volveré a ver (la tengo en vídeo, y ya no sé ni si el aparato de vídeo de casa funciona).

Antonio Lopez (Tomelloso, Ciudad Real, 1936) has created a timeless, masterful body of work focused on the realistic representation of living beings and objects. López first examines the reality and then, usually without the aid of preliminary sketches, executed his artworks in a slow, thoroughly thought-through process that may last for years and which often forces him to successively enlarge the dimensions of the support he is using. The idea that the work of this painter is seasons governed (in some way) is a something that produces me curiosity. Let me explain. There are pictures that he painted only in summer or winter, so as to collect all the details of that time and place in his work. He could spend many years painting. Patience and perfection are two words that define him.
Hombre y mujer (1968-1990)
Although exhibited works dated between 1949 and 2010, the project focuses on the work of the last two decades, so that will bring together works (about 130) as emblematic as the first family portraits surrealistic, the mystical views of the Gran Via or drawings of their study. Along with this, pay attention to his recent works, including some still unfinished and therefore unpublished. This will highlight the slow and thoughtful process of artistic creation by Antonio López, one of the most prestigious artists and aroused greater admiration in the Spanish art scene today.
His paintings, drawings and sculptures reflect still life, rural, family portraits, domestic environments, the city of Madrid … a walk through all his work which ends with a series of oil paintings of flowers and recent projects.

In addition, I highly recommend a film of the director Victor Erice: El sol del membrillo (1992), in which is highlighted the creative process of Antonio López. I saw it years ago, and now I’ll see it again (I have it on video, and I do not know if the home VCR still works).
